Overview

The Murray River is the lifeblood of northern Victoria, snaking all the way from the Australian Alps into South Australia. If you want to explore this region, you've got a few options. Hiring a car and driving from Melbourne is a good way to go, although we recommend breaking up the six-hour drive to Mildura with some stops along the way (Castlemaine and Lake Tyrrell are both fantastic). Alternatively, you can catch a V-Line train to Echuca, Albury Wodonga, Mildura or Swan Hill. Whatever you choose, you'll want to stop at some Visitor Information Centres to get all the best local advice.
