Overview

Make your way to the Murray River and discover a sun-kissed wonderland full of striking landscapes and winding waterways. Follow the river as it winds through the heart of the region and take your pick of all kinds of watery fun, from waterskiing, boating and kayaking to fishing and canoeing. There are plenty of options for landlubbers too, with great bushwalking trails, renowned golf courses and cycling routes to try.

Life on the water

Spend a few relaxing days with friends or family navigating the river in a houseboat. Take a ride in a historic paddle steamer, or explore the reserves and wetlands in a canoe. Find a secluded spot on a river beach to soak up some sun, enjoy a picnic lunch or try your hand at a spot of fishing. Keen for something more strenuous? Strap on a pair of waterskis or join a white-water rafting adventure.

Outback adventures

Travel beyond the lush, green riverbank to the vast Australian outback – the stuff of pioneer legend and the home of ancient Aboriginal Dreamtime stories.

Explore the rugged terrain on foot or by 4WD. Off-roading enthusiasts will love the 354-kilometre River Red Gum Drive that takes in the Gunbower, Barmah and Murray Valley national parks. Set up camp in the wilderness and sleep under the stars, or see the stunning scenery from the air in a hot air balloon or a joy flight.

Grass is greener

Bust out the golf clubs and make the most of the region's riverside golf courses – designed by some of the biggest names in the game. Tee off surrounded by beautiful natural bushland and stunning river views.
