Overview

Introduce the family to Phillip Island's resident koalas or get up close and personal at dedicated conservation locations around the region.

Close encounters

Wander along the treetop boardwalks at Phillip Island's Koala Reserve and spot koalas high in the crooks of trees, a favoured position that makes them hard to see in the wild. Bring your camera as excellent photo opportunities abound. Look out for young joeys emerging from their mothers' pouches between December and February. The reserve's interpretive exhibition provides a fascinating background into the lives of koalas.

Join the ranger for informative talks and watch the koalas over a latte at Maru Koala and Animal Park in nearby Grantville.

French Island

Catch the ferry to nearby French Island, home to the most significant population of koalas in Victoria. Walk and cycle around the quiet island, and camp overnight for the chance to see koalas getting active.
