Overview

Splash in calm waters, jump the waves in surf beaches (if it's safe to do so) and while the day away on golden beaches. Feeling competitive?Join an organised swimming race to put your strokes to the test.

Sandy coastal hamlets

Take a dip in the ocean along the peninsula's coast, spanning from Frankston, with inlets around Mount Eliza and Mount Martha, and the long expanse from Safety Beach to Dromana, Rosebud and Rye to Sorrento and Portsea. The still waters over at Shoreham and Somers are ideal for families. While Portsea is home to the annual Portsea Swim Classic which attracts swimmers of all levels.

Organised encounters with peninsula personalities

Join an organised swimming expedition out to meet dolphins and seals in their aquatic playgrounds. If the sea mammals are in the mood, they'll let you watch their underwater acrobatics from a front row position.

Take care and swim between the red and yellow flags put out by lifeguards and lifesavers who patrol beaches during peak holiday times.

Plan before you go: Be sure to check weather and terrain conditions and pack plenty of water before you embark on an outdoor adventure. Stay up-to-date with the latest warnings and advice via the Parks Victoria and Vic Emergency websites.
