New moon RISING

On the first night of winter, a new festival is ascending over Melbourne. Three years in the making, RISING is set to reawaken the city with art, performance, music and ceremony. The inaugural festival will run over 12 nights from 1 to 12 June 2022 with an extensive program of free and ticketed events. These will take place in spaces across the heart of Melbourne, from the Arts Precinct to Chinatown and beyond.

Rug up for The Wilds to see fluoro-lit nature reclaim Sidney Myer Music Bowl as a magical night garden, complete with ice-skating rink, massive illuminated inflatable sculptures and bamboo structures of imaginative life forms. Book in at the plant-filled glasshouse bistro The Lighthouse, helmed by acclaimed chef David Moyle of Longsong fame, for an elaborate fine-dining experience.

Golden Square in Melbourne's famous Chinatown transforms into a maze-like multi-level car park into an exhibition space, filled with pieces by leading contemporary artists. Feast at nearby Heffernan Lane Night Markets.

Look for the almost one kilometre long laser beam of MONOCHORD, searing above the Yarra (Birrarung). Or book to enter a breathtaking mirror maze with Kaleidoscope, popping up at the Arts Centre Melbourne forecourt.

Traverse a music program spanning the globe from Japan to Switzerland, South London to Saskatchewan. Highlights include Tkay Maidza and Sampa The Great performing at The Forum. Engage with story through movement with MANIFESTO, Multitud or Jurrungu Ngan-ga (Straight Talk).
