Overview

The historic townships of the High Country house an eclectic mix of shops and galleries selling everything from antiques, collectibles and local handcrafts to jewellery, handmade sweets and gourmet offerings.

Something special

Begin in historic Beechworth where you'll find many shops located in grand old gold rush buildings. Browse fine jewellery at Beechworth Gold, located in the old Bank of Victoria building, or pick up antiques and local wine at the Beechworth Wine Centre, housed in the Italianate Bank of New South Wales building. While in town, view hand made pottery pieces at The Potters Beechworth or sample the humbugs from the award-winning Beechworth Sweet Company.

Keep exploring at local markets filled with handmade gifts and antiques, or head to the towns of Yackandandah and Chiltern, where you can browse the quaint shops and boutiques offering antiques and country collectibles.

Teenagers and retro-peddlers will love fossicking through the racks at the numerous op-shops peppered across the region. Find that special treasure and help raise money for the community at the same time.

Fill the pantry

Gourmands will delight in the rewards on offer all across the High Country. Stock up on fresh, seasonal bounty at local provedores and farmers' markets, gourmet grocers and farms gates so you can keep the good times rolling after you get back home.

Get tips on local wineries and gourmet treats at the Rutherglen Wine Experience, pick up all things honey at the beloved Beechworth Honey, or book in a visit to Milawa, home to the famous Milawa Cheese Factory, Milawa Mustards, Brown Brothers winery and The Olive Shop. Ramble on from village village, filling the boot with everything from jams, chutneys, berries and nuts to olives, cheeses and local wines.
