Head to the High Country's national parks and reserves to see spectacular views of cascading falls. Many of the region's waterfalls are easily accessible via marked tracks, with extended trail options available for more experienced hikers. Pack a picnic, lace up your boots and go for a wander.
Falls Creek
Falls Creek is home to two fast-flowing waterfalls, linking to Horseshoe Creek and the Kiewa River. The trail entrance to Falls Creek Falls is around 150 metres past the entrance of the village. Once you reach the waterfall, you can continue along the Packhorse Heritage Trail, which leads to Howmans Gap. The Fainter Falls walking track is around 1.5 kilometres long and provides spectacular views of the waterfall.
Paradise Falls
Only 20 minutes from the town of Whitfield, this waterfall is the perfect place for a picnic. Head there after heavy rain to see the falls at their picture-perfect best.
Salisbury Falls
This waterfall is accessible via the Salisbury Falls Walk, which makes it way up Mt Warby and on through the Salisbury Falls Gorge. The track is steep in places due to the presence of stairs and a moderate level of fitness is required.
Cudgewa Falls
Head to Burrowa Pine Mountain National Park to see this spectacular set of waterfalls. Start at the Bluff Creek Nature Trail and walk for 45 minutes through serene bushland to reach the base of the falls. To avoid the walk, continue 2.5 kilometres past the Bluff Creek area to park in a small upper car park, located around 200 metres from the waterfalls.
Ladies Bath and Eurobin Falls
These falls were once a popular place for people to refresh themselves, on the long journey from Melbourne to the Mount Buffalo chalet in the 1930s and '40s. With an easily accessible trail, Ladies Bath remains the perfect place for a dip on a hot summer's day – just be careful when walking over the rocks, as they can be slippery. Pack a picnic and drive 10 minutes from Porepunkah or 20 minutes from Bright, for a relaxing, half-day trip to the national park.
Rollasons Falls
Located in Mount Buffalo National Park, these falls can be accessed via a short 3 kilometre return trail. Walk along the Rollasons Falls Track to two viewing points – one looking over the falls into the rock pool, or take in the cascading water from the base of the rock pool itself.
