Goldfields Way Touring Route
Take the scenic route between Ballarat and Bendigo. This easy-to-navigate touring route takes you to heritage sites, natural attractions and the historic townships of Creswick, Clunes, Talbot, Maryborough and Dunolly. Simply follow the road signs as you explore.
Ballarat and Bendigo
Explore the jewels in the Goldfields’ crown with our touring routes through Ballarat and Bendigo. These charming towns are bursting with history, art and good food and wine. Take a weekend getaway from the city to unwind, refresh and recharge.
Regional flavours
Wine and food lovers can discover fabulous food and sample varieties of wine from all across the region on the five Taste of Gold trails: Central Goldfields, Castlemaine, Mt Alexander, Coliban Bridge and Kyneton.
In the cooler weather, take on The Shiraz Central wine route, where you can compare the terroir of Victoria’s stunning shiraz regions: the Grampians (Gariwerd) and Pyrenees, Bendigo, Ballarat and Heathcote, the Goulburn Valley and the Macedon Ranges.
For something more urban, take a food-filled stroll through the streets on the Bendigo Feast food trail. Pop into wholefoods hubs, sample home-baked goodies, relax in laneway wine bars and chow down on Bendigo's best steak.
Beyond the Goldfields
If you're travelling from interstate or you have time to roam further, consider following the Sydney Melbourne Heritage Drive up through the Goldfields and on to the Murray River region.
Alternatively, hit the Great Southern Touring Route, which takes you along Victoria’s rugged south coast to the iconic 12 Apostles, or the Pyrenees & Grampians Touring Route, which leaves from Ballarat through the Pyrenees region, taking wineries, country towns and mountain ranges along the way.
How to get around
The Goldfields is best accessed by car, giving you the best chance to explore its many towns and escape to waterfalls, mineral springs and walking trails. Prefer two wheels? Take on a section of the 210km Goldfields Track, which runs from Mt Buninyong to Bendigo. Mountain bikers prefer to start from Mt Buninyong and head north.
