Chris and Gabrielle Moore are the brewers behind Sailors Grave Brewing in Orbost, East Gippsland. They share some of their favourite spots in Gippsland with us.
1. Long Paddock
Set in a former bakery amid the rolling hills of Lindenow, Long Paddock is Chris and Gab's favourite spot for Sunday lunch. It's a picturesque place to sample Gippsland's fantastic range of fresh local produce, all creatively combined in a seasonal menu.
2. Lightfoot Wines
Chris and Gab like to follow up a Long Paddock meal with wine at Lightfoot Wines cellar door. Perched on the limestone cliffs overlooking the Lindenow Valley, the winery provides one of the most spectacular views in Gippsland – ideal for a relaxing tipple on the outdoor deck.
3. Mallacoota Wild Harvest Seafood Festival
This festival is where Chris and Gab met diver Jason Yorke, who has worked with them in the creation of their UNI sea urchin beer. It's the kind of place where you can meet the local community, sample fresh local produce and fill your esky with seafood for home.
4. Sodafish
Lakes Entrance is renowned for its fresh fish available straight off the boat. You can cook it yourself, or you can leave it to the team at Sodafish to turn it into a meal worth remembering. Pair plates with views of the water on the floating restaurant's upper balcony, or order takeaway from the fish and chippery, located on the lower decks.
5. Marlo Hotel
Ah, the good old local pub. This is the watering hole of choice for Chris and Gab, who come to relax and sink a sundowner or two of Sou'East Draught on tap after a day of brewing.
6. Sardine
For more top-notch seafood cooked by a pro, Chris and Gab recommend Sardine just along in Paynesville. The eponymous wee fish is the hero here, honoured in innovative meals by chef Mark Briggs, formerly of Vue de Monde in Melbourne.
