Overview

Spend a few peaceful hours fishing for blackfish, brown trout or redfin in the rivers and reservoirs of Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges.

Rivers run

Go on a fishing expedition for small trout, redfin and blackfish and other native fish in the upper reaches of the Werribee River in Werribee State Park.

The Lerderderg River also contains a good number of trout, however the surrounding gorge country limits access to the river. The best access points are at McKenzies Flat, Blackwood and O'Brien's Crossing.

Take one home

There are also a number of lakes stocked with trout, with good fishing at times, including the Newlyn Reservoir near Creswick, the Hepburn Lagoon near Hepburn Springs and the Malmsbury, Lauriston and Coliban Reservoirs near Kyneton.

If you're not game to leave dinner to chance, Tuki Trout Farm guarantees a catch. Have your trout either expertly prepared for lunch, or cleaned and wrapped to take home.

Before you go

Most people will need a fishing licence even if they are only fishing for a couple of hours off a jetty. Find out everything you need to know about recreational fishing from the Victorian Fisheries Authority:
