Cycle, walk or horse ride through Goldfields country and discover what was once an important transport link between the historic gold mining towns of Ballarat and Skipton.
Completely resurfaced in 2008, the trail reveals sights and structures from Victoria's gold mining and rail histories and breathtaking farmlands and bushlands alive with native birds and wildflowers.
Learn about the history of the area along the way as you pass the former Chinese settlement site at Nintingbool, numerous railway remains and timber trestle bridges. The largest and most impressive of these, Nimmons Bridge, is best viewed from the track below the bridge and across the creek.
Stop along the way in small towns such as Linton with its nineteenth century church and local craft markets, and Smythesdale with its many historic buildings.
The trail can be found on the western side of Ballarat where it crosses the Avenue of Honour. It is suitable for the whole family.
