Overview
Melbourne's southeast growth corridor has created a niche in the golf market, underpinned by the relocation of the PGA of Australia's national headquarters from Sydney to the high-profile Sandhurst Club. This popular golf and residential estate is home to the PGA National Learning Centre, two quality courses and world-class training facilities. Also within the Frankston/Cranbourne cluster is the well-established Long Island. A little further down the road is the more modern Settlers Run and Ranfurlie.
In the west
Across town, the best in the west is Sanctuary Lakes, a proven tournament venue consistently rising in the rankings. Eynesbury is a young course also attracting attention. Sprinkled around the inner city and surrounding suburbs are a variety of municipal courses.
The sandbelt region
Melbourne's famous sandbelt region boasts a fabulous group of golf courses that epitomise the golden age of golf architecture. These highly ranked layouts are built on land in the southeast suburbs ideal for golf and conveniently located within a short distance of each other. A rich vein of sandy loam subsoil in the region provides the rare opportunity to construct incredible green complexes defended by bunkers with quite heavy lips, while the fairways are covered with a base grass of couch noted for its firmness and year-round vibrancy. The temperate climate around Melbourne is perfect for producing bent grass putting surfaces.

Royal Melbourne (East and West), Kingston Heath, Metropolitan, Victoria, Commonwealth, Huntingdale, Yarra Yarra, Peninsula (North and South), Woodlands and Spring Valley are all championship venues masterminded by acclaimed architects.
