St Kilda Road is Melbourne's tree-lined artery, heading south to the bay. It's the gateway to lush parks and well-known cultural landmarks.

Art and natural beauty

Get your arts fix with the National Gallery of Victoria International's incredible permanent collection, or visit a blockbuster show. Grab tickets for a performance at Melbourne's Arts Centre next door, and don't miss the amazing collection at the Australian Music Vault — a free exhibition showcasing the story of Australian music. Come Sundays, you can browse the Arts Centre Market held along the footpaths to the river.

Spend the afternoon exploring the Domain Parklands that line St Kilda Road. Bring a picnic lunch or just while away the day on the manicured lawns of Alexandra and Queen Victoria Gardens, surrounded by fountains, statues and even a colourful floral clock.

A little further from the city lies the vast Royal Botanic Gardens, home to thousands of plant species and birds. Explore lakes, observatories, the Children's Garden, rainforest walks, and themed lawns. Spend summer evenings at a theatre performance or catch a film under the stars. Alternatively, join morning joggers on 'the Tan', a running track encircling the gardens.

Down by the river

Head down to the Yarra River for glorious fresh air and shimmering reflections. Wander past boat sheds and palm trees, while taking in views of the city skyline. Head to the Kings Domain for a show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne's shell-shaped amphitheatre for outdoor performances.

Lest we forget

On the edge of the Botanic Gardens in Kings Domain sits the striking Shrine of Remembrance, a war memorial to the fallen soldiers of Victoria. Climb to the balcony at the top for wonderful views of the city. The historic Victoria Barracks are also located along St Kilda Road.

Moomba magic

Make sure you're around St Kilda Road every March to catch the madness and mayhem of free family festival, Moomba.
