A country pace
If you are looking for a gentle stroll there are plenty of easy walks around picturesque country towns such as Daylesford, Kyneton and Sunbury. Wander around the parks and historic private gardens in Mount Macedon, explore the plants of New Zealand in Gisborne's Botanic Gardens, or take a quiet stroll around Lake Daylesford.
Test your stamina on a walk to the summit of Mount Piper. Enjoy panoramic views from the top and keep an eye out for wedge tail eagles, fairy martins and the endangered blue ant butterfly.
Forest adventures
Seek out national, state and regional parks in the area for the best bushwalking trails. These include the Lederderg State Park, Macedon Regional Park, Werribee State Park, Hepburn Regional Park and Hanging Rock Reserve as well as the Wombat State Forest and the Mount Disappointment State Forest.
Long walks
For a serious walk, join the Great Dividing Trail as it passes through the region via the Federation Track from Ballarat to Daylesford, Dry Diggings Track from Daylesford to Castlemaine and the Lerderderg Track from Daylesford to Blackwood.
