The Melbourne Cup Carnival is a week long celebration of racing, food and wine, fashion and entertainment. It's when fabulous Flemington becomes the corporate, social and sporting epicentre of Australia. The event not only captures the imagination of Melburnian's but attracts visitors nationwide and from all points of globe.

The Melbourne Cup Carnival is comprised over four unique racedays:

AAMI Victoria Derby Day - Saturday 3 November 2012
This raceday is considered by most racing purists to be the best single day of thoroughbred racing in Australia, if not the world. This is the day for classic sophistication where the traditional black and white outfit has been a prominent colour theme for women, while men have worn a grey morning suit and top hat.

Emirates Melbourne Cup Day - Tuesday 6 November 2012
The $6.2 million Emirates Melbourne Cup is a truly spectacular event and the focal point of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. While most of Australia stops to watch or listen to the race, there's nothing like being there amongst the 100,000 plus crowd to experience this truly unique event.

Crown Oaks Day - Thursday 8 November 2012
The Ultimate Style Day - is the time when women of all ages come together and celebrate feminine elegance and the heritage of Ladies Day at Flemington. Women take the opportunity to express their own signature style in the Myer Fashions of the Field competition.

Emirates Stakes Day - Saturday 10 November 2012
Recognised as the Carnival's Family Day, Emirates Stakes Day is the fastest growing race meeting of the four-day Carnival with crowds topping 80,000 in recent years. The focus of this day is family fun with free activities arranged for children.

Local directions

Flemington is located 6kms from the CBD. Fast, frequent trains will run to and from Flemington Racecourse over the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Special race trains will depart Flinders Street (Platforms 8, 9 & 10), stopping at Southern Cross station (Platform 13 & 14) and North Melbourne (Platform 5 & 6), then express to Flemington. Make sure you have a valid Metcard for your journey.
