Overview
Ironman arrives in Melbourne, the sporting capital of Australia. The Ironman Asia Pacific Championship is the most significant Ironman triathlon event ever held in Australia and will be held in Melbourne on Sunday March 24, 2013. Entries to the event were some of the most sought after in the history of the sport.
The event is a premium qualifier for the 2013 Ironman World Championship. The race has attracted three-time Ironman World Champion Craig Alexander (AUS), 2010 Ironman World Champion Mirinda Carfrae (AUS) and a host of the worlds greatest endurance athletes as they chase the inaugural Melbourne title and a share of the US $125,000 prize money.
Athletes will complete a 3.8 kilometre swim at Frankston Foreshore, a 180 kilometre Bike leg predominantly on the EastLink Tollway and a 42.2 kilometre run from Frankston through to the Official Ironman Asia Pacific Championship Finish Line located at the iconic St Kilda Sea Baths. Athletes have 17 hours to complete the course, with the winners expected across the line shortly after eight hours.
