Cecconi's downstairs diner at the top end of town is all class – from casual cantina one end to fine dining the other. It's spacious yet intimate, with service that's sometimes cheeky but still professional and attentive. Smoky mirrors reflect the elegant dining room's coffee-coloured tones, and the open kitchen provides entertainment. Look out for daily specials that make the most of seasonal ingredients, like pine mushrooms, in an intense velouté that accompanies smoky field mushroom tortelli. Twice-cooked souffle marries goat's cheese and fromage blanc into a smooth, velvety puff. Prawns, preserved lemon and parmesan enliven a creamy risotto. Later, a luscious meringue roulade cradles fresh berries and chantilly cream, and Italian doughnuts duet with caramel brittle icecream. Accomplished waitstaff seem to be enjoying themselves as much as their patrons.
