It’s getting so that local Zeally Bay bakery’s sourdough breadsticks are a sure sign of a great place to eat around here. At this light-filled, come-as-you-are beachside diner, they come warm with spicy dukkah and olive oil - the perfect opener to a confident, joyful meal of mainly Middle Eastern flavours. Owners James White and Vanessa Joachim have a real handle on Moorish food, from a bright and breezy salad of sugar-cured trout delicately paired with shaved fennel and citrus to nicely bouncy lamb koftas squished into a smooth, nutty hummus that makes you want to order seconds on the spot. Slow-cooked lamb with freekeh and labna is a fall-apart treat, and the shared dessert of baklava, Persian fairy floss, halva and mini Turkish delight is a hoot. Build in the warmly caring service, cloth napkins, inside-outside seating, and gorgeous water views through the tall Norfolk pines, and those breadsticks are on the money once again.
