Holgate Brewhouse is a family owned 100% independent craft-brewing company, cranking out classic beer styles in their microbrewing plant in Woodend - 45 minutes north of Melbourne in the central highlands of Victoria.

A visit to Holgate Brewhouse at Keatings Hotel is the best way to get intimate with the eight Holgate draught beers or even better stay the night upstairs in the fully refurbished stylish accommodation and enjoy a fabulous restaurant meal, beers and local wines.

The Beers

The beers are all traditionally brewed, with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. They just use four ingredients - malt, hops, yeast and pure Macedon Ranges water. Their Real Ales are served from Beer Engines fully imported from England - these babies pump up the ale from the cellar in the time honoured tradition.

They have a 'Tasting Paddle' available where you get a 90ml sample of all the Holgate beers to try before deciding on your favourite! Or arrange a brewery tour in conjunction with an accommodation package.

Accommodation

This grand old hotel has been stylishly refurbished and developed to house ten modern rooms, each with own ensuite and queen size beds. Enjoy a bed and breakfast with fantastic view across the village of Woodend or onto Mt Macedon. Enquire about their dinner, bed and breakfast packages.

Bar and Lounge

Relax and kick-back in the friendly atmosphere of the cosy bar and lounge and enjoy the eight Holgate draught beers, a superb local wine list, Byron Bay grown coffee, newspapers and great views across the village of Woodend and a friendly and warm atmosphere. Live music most Friday nights.

Restaurant

Check out the restaurant and outdoor dining courtyard - offering modern Australian menu including house-made breads, cakes and platters of local produce. Many of the dishes, including our popular Beef and Ale pie, are cooked using the Holgate beer.

Local directions

When coming from Melbourne along the Calder Freeway, take the Macedon/Woodend exit. Immediately after exiting, take the left fork for Woodend along Black Forest Drive. Drive for 5 minutes and you come into the main township of Woodend. Holgate Brewhouse at Keatings Hotel is on the left (Western) side and is a double storey, red-brick hotel.

We have plenty of kids coming with their families to our hotel - and there is plenty space to keep them occupied: Toys - In our lounge are we have a box of toys (ex-Holgate kids!) that can keep babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers going while Mum and Dad kick-back on the sofas and couches with a beer, wine or coffee - chat or read the paper. Colouring In - plenty of colouring-in for kids of all ages Outdoors - In the summer, or any time, sit in our courtyard with views of High St and Mt Macedon and the kids can run around to their hearts content!
