Background Launched in 2000, The Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award is one of Australia's leading prizes for sculptors in Australia. It is realisation of a bequest by the late Keith Wood, honouring his wife, painter Helen Lempriere. Keith Wood was very keen to make a significant philanthropic contribution to the arts that would endure long after he died. In the last years of his life he conferred with Perpetual Trustees about where his gift could do the most good. He discovered there was almost no philanthropic support for people working in the field of arts and crafts. Therefore he set out in his will that an art prize honouring his late wife, should be established to support artists working in three dimensional art forms. In its eighth year, the 2008 Award features 25 finalists and their works provide the basis of a stunning exhibition in the gardens of Werribee Park until 31 May 2008. At all other times of the year, you can explore the stunning Werribee Sculpture Walk, a unique and permanent outdoor exhibition that features 28 large scale works and extends from the Mansion and hotel to the recently developed Riverine area. Entry Costs Werribee Park admission fees apply. Entry includes self-guided tour of the historic Chirnside mansion and complimentary wine tasting at Shadowfax Winery. Special guided tours are presented throughout the exhibition and a limited edition catalogue of the finalists' works is available for $20.
