Golfing – Mornington Peninsula

For anybody who has ever teed up, the Mornington Peninsula is golfing heaven. The peninsula’s natural topography is perfect for links-style layouts and includes challenging courses designed by golfing greats Greg Norman, Peter Thomson, Robert Trent Jones Jr, Tom Doak and Tony Cashmore.

Tee off at the daunting 6,800-metre Moonah Links, specifically designed for the prestigious Australian Open, or head to The National, arguably the hardest golf package in the country.

The Dunes Golf Links

The Dunes

Browns Road, Rye
Par 72; 6,409 metres

The Dunes has earned a well-deserved reputation as a true links course, without doubt one of Australia's best. Like all links layouts, wind determines how tough it plays. As the round unfolds, golfers face some awe-inspiring shots if taking on dramatic carries between the sand dunes. The spectacular par five 12th hole is a double dogleg created by sandy wasteland that threatens both the drive and second shot.

Devilbend GC

Devilbend

Loders Road, Moorooduc
18 hole; 6,250 metres

Devilbend Golf Club is a challenging course set amidst a flora and fauna reserve. The clubhouse is renowned for its friendly atmosphere. Bar and restaurants on site, well equipped golf shop and practice facilities available.

Eagle Ridge

Eagle Ridge

Browns Road, Rosebud
Par 72; 6,116 metres

A close neighbour of the Dunes and built on similar undulating, sandy land common to the Mornington Peninsula. However, the two layouts are quite different, with Eagle Ridge's fairways more tree lined and flanked by the odd water hazard. Course designer Kevin Hartley created some nice bunkers, particularly on the short sixth that features a chasm of sand to the right of the green.

Flinders Golf Course

Flinders

Bass Street, Flinders
Par 69; 5,259 metres

A unique coastal course perched high above the clifftop overlooking Bass Strait. Features spectacular views from many holes with a real mix of flavours. Early in the round watch out for the famous 'coffin' hole, a driveable short par four which graphically illustrates the risk-reward nature of golf. The course, nestled alongside Westernport Bay, is close to the clifftops on several holes.

Mornington Golf

Mornington

Tallis Drive, Mornington
More than just a great golf club! Heres a rare opportunity to combine sight seeing, shopping, wonderful food, wine tasting in some of Australias premier wine estates, sea-side fresh air... all with your game of golf.

Portsea Golf Club

Portsea

Relph Avenue, Portsea
Par 72; 5,935 metres

Undulating terrain with terrific bunkering and set near the heads of the bay on prime real estate. A 'rough at the edges' look on some holes blends seamlessly into this magnificently routed layout on a dream parcel of land. 'Blind' shots over hills are a real feature where turf, sand and natural contours combine to create one heck of a test for golfers of all abilities.

Cape Schanck Golf

RACV Cape Schanck Resort

Trent Jones Drive, Cape Schanck
Perched high on one of Australia's most spectacular coastal headlands, the RACV Cape Schanck Resort Golf Course boasts stunning views over the majestic Southern Ocean and Port Phillip Bay.

Rosebud CC

Rosebud Country Club

207 Boneo Road, Rosebud
Rosebud Country club has been part of the Peninsula since 1962 with 36 great golf holes and excellent clubhouse facilities.

Rosebud Park Golf

Rosebud Park

Elizabeth Drive, Rosebud
This is a truly beautiful public golf course with views that stretch from Port Phillip Bay to Bass Strait.

Safety Beach CC

Safety Beach Country Club

Country Club Drive, Safety Beach
Lush green fairways and well maintained greens offer all levels of golfer a round that will inspire them to return to "beat the course".

Sorrento Golf Club

Sorrento

Langford Road, Sorrento
Par 70; 5,644 metres

Arguably the prettiest opening hole in the country. Can be reached with a downhill drive over a sea of sand, but the shot must be perfect. The opening shot sets the tone for some memorable golf on an undulating course built on sand and limestone. The layout is renowned for its many doglegs, awkward stances and lies.
