The Queen Street Legal, Leisure and Business Precinct is the heart of the city's law courts district. Watch the drama of a court case as it unfolds, admire the Supreme Court and its grand dome or visit the County Court, Victoria's chief trial court and one of the most striking court buildings in Australia.
The precinct has some of the grandest architecture in the country, including the ornate nineteenth century Gothic ANZ Bank in Queen Street, with its magnificent gold-leaf interior.
The network of charming laneways in this precinct is full of secrets for those who like to explore. Historic Bank Place and its surrounds is one of Melbourne's discreet pedestrian thoroughfares, with enticing hidden restaurants, bars and clubs in converted nineteenth century buildings. Have a beer with the after-work crowd and check out the quaint Mitre Tavern, Melbourne's oldest licensed pub, built in 1837, or wine and dine at Syracuse, a wine bar and restaurant fashioned from a former hotel's impressive dining room.
