The breathtaking scenery throughout Victoria really comes to life when taken in on foot. From the High Country and Gippsland's endless coastline to the rugged Great Ocean Road, there are plenty of hiking and bushwalking trails for visitors of all fitness levels.

Challenging walks

Strap on your boots and make your way into the High Country's intricate network of walking trails. Offering challenging terrain such as the Razorback, these hikes test the limits of physical strength and mental endurance. However, it is well worth it for the breathtaking views across the vast alpine wilderness.

Pace yourself

The Great Ocean Walk along Victoria's south west coast provides a series of stunning views that that capture the beauty and grace of Mother Nature. Go the full 104 kilometres or choose a simple day hike. Travel from Apollo Bay to the 12 Apostles, taking in remote beaches and forests, towering cliffs and small villages, with a memorable experience at every turn.

Looking for a gentle walking experience? Make your way south to Wilsons Promontory National Park in the Gippsland region. Here, it's easy to find trails to suit all fitness levels with equal pay-outs. A simple three-kilometre hike up the Mount Oberon Summit rewards you with an amazing view while the Great Prom Walk gives even beginners an option for an overnight hike.

Short walks

Meander along quiet beaches and explore rainforest, teeming with wildlife. Hike up granite slopes, walk to misty waterfalls and on through rugged coastal hinterland. Victoria's national parks offer a range of short day walks, suitable for families and the casual hiker.

Take in views of the waterfall from the elevated viewing platform on the Triplet Falls Rainforest Walk in the Great Otway Park. Experience the diverse landscapes of Shelly Beach on a stroll through fern gullies, coastal scrub, beach and rocky platforms. Or, for a dose of mountain air, head on up to the High Country for amazing views from Mt Bogong and Mt Buffalo.

Overnight walks

Set aside a few days to enjoy long distance walks like the Australian Alps Walking Track, The Great South West Walk or the Great Ocean Walk. Take on the whole distance or choose from a range of shorter sections to suit your itinerary. Enjoy panoramic views, visit quaint towns and villages, and explore the beaches, forests and landmarks along the way.

Travellers with a little less time will love the Bluff Trail along Howqua River, where commercial tour operators run horse-riding trips to the Bluff. For a bushwalking experience talking in wild rivers, ancient snow gums and rainforests, strap on your boots and hit the Mitchell River Walking Track or Great Walhalla Alpine Trail.
