Wildflowers

The hills are alive! And so are the mountains, fields and valleys. As winter moves into spring, watch in wonder as the wildflowers emerge and turn the land technicolour. There's nothing wrong with a joyful spin in a meadow at the thought of brighter, warmer days ahead.

Ring in spring in Victoria's diverse national parks and reserves, where botanical treasures abound. Look out as far as the eye can see over carpets of bright native daisies, admire the flowering tea-tree and wattle that adorns your path and get down low to zoom in on a sublime orchid holding its own in the hardy bush.

The Grampians celebrates

Hit the Grampians region to see a huge variety of wildflowers in their natural settings and join in on wildflower-related events. Home to more than one third of Victoria's flora, the Grampians region is flush with pink and white heath, orchids and blooming tea-trees in spring.

Visit in early October for Halls Gap's Wildflower Walkabout Weekend and pick up native plants and cut flowers at the Pomonal Wildflower Show.

Gippsland in bloom

The contrasts of Gippslands' natural landscapes are reflected in the dizzying array of wildflowers on show in popular parks and reserves. See spectacular displays of wildflowers including orchids, wattle and heathland at Wilsons Promontory National Park and Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park, spot native orchids at Morwell National Park, and fields covered in snow daisies and yellow billy buttons in the Snowy River National Park. Orchid enthusiasts should spend some time in Croajingolong National Park, where over 90 species are known to occur.
