Overview

Experience the eerie beauty of Victoria's cave systems. Explore the spectacular natural limestone formations at Gippsland's Buchan Caves and join a guided tour of the Royal Cave or Fairy Cave, created millions of years ago by underground rivers cutting through limestone rock.

Ancient ghosts

Make the incredible Princess Margaret Rose Cave in the southwest corner of Victoria along the Glenelg River part of your adventure. These ancient stalagmites and stalactites, formed by the slow dripping of calcifying water, are semi-translucent and backlit to give the towering columns a ghostly appearance. The cave is set to be open from mid-2023 following upgrades.

Trails and rivers

Stay on to explore the walking trails in Buchan Caves Reserve, home to native wildlife and many scenic camping and picnic spots. Tired legs? Take a river cruise through the Lower Glenelg National Park where the river has cut a swathe through soft limestone.
