Camping

Make the most of the scenic beauty of the state and national parks in the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges and camp out in beautiful bush or beside clear mountain streams.

Camping in the Dandenongs
Delve deeper into the Dandenong Ranges and camp around Emerald and Gembrook, at Wombat Corner near Emerald Lake Park, Kurth Kiln Park and in Bunyip State Park. Take a torch and spot the nocturnal possums, owls, bats and gliders.

Yarra Valley with a tent
Camp at the well-serviced camping area, featuring electric barbecues, toilets, showers and fireplaces in Upper Yarra Reservoir Park. Swim and fish in crystal-clear rivers during the day, and look out for reclusive local wildlife at night.

Upgrade to a caravan or cabin and sleep in close proximity to Steavenson Falls at Marysville Caravan and Holiday Park.

Traditionally, people wishing to pitch a tent in the Yarra Valley have camped in Cathedral Range State Park and Kinglake National Park. Large areas of both parks have been closed to visitors since the 2009 bushfires, so you're advised to check closures before you head off.

The fine print
Most campgrounds have some facilities, although not all have toilets. Contact Parks Victoria on 13 1963 for more information on facilities and also periods of total fire ban.

Due to the 2009 fires, some parks in the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges remain closed to visitors. Please ask at the local Visitor Information Centre or check the Parks Victoria website for current track, road and area closures.
