Film: A hint of sand
Location: Rigby Island, Gippsland

Opposite Lakes Entrance and just over the dunes from Ninety Mile Beach, Rigby Island is one of three islands near Barrier Landing on the Gippsland Lakes. There is no Eleanor, only Flanagan and Fraser.

A twitchers' paradise, the island is a breeding ground for shorebirds including the Hooded Plover, and is home to a protected Little Tern habitat. Bring your binoculars.

Wanderers will need to bring their sea legs too, as the island can only be accessed by boat. The best way to see Rigby Island is to take one of the many boat tours departing from Lakes Entrance. (And from there you can contemplate which makes the better entrance: the lake or the ocean?)
