Location: Mount Buffalo
Address: Mount Buffalo Road, Mount Buffalo National Park

Go round the outside for magnificent views at one of Australia's oldest national parks.

Declared a national park in 1898, Mount Buffalo National Park is home to a spectacular boulder-strewn landscape with sheer cliffs, imposing granite tors, tumbling waterfalls and snow gums. Park yourself there with plenty of time to explore.

In summer, traverse the park on two feet or two wheels, join rock-climbers and campers and take in the cool mountain air. Take your camera to capture the stunning wildflowers. Hire a canoe and paddle around Lake Catani, pack a picnic and peg out the best lakeside camping spots. In winter, snow your own way with tobogganing, cross-country skiing and snowball dodging.

Need to feel the air in your lungs? The park has 90 kilometres of walking tracks. Make a start with the two-kilometre Cathedral-Hump Walking Track. It's steep, but well worth the huff and puff to reach the granite tor Cathedral. Catch your breath and watch climbers catch their way. From here, walk on to the Hump summit for views of the Mount Buffalo plateau, Cresta Valley and the Horn. Need higher love? Take the summit walk to The Horn, the highest point on Mount Buffalo, offering 360-degrees views and a perch for spectacular sunsets.
