Film: Wander Victoria
Location: Lake Crosbie, Pink Lakes, Murray-Sunset National Park
Address: Pink Lakes Road, via Linga and the Mallee Highway

Glistening in the Murray Sunset National Park, Lake Crosbie is one of the Murray region's 'Pink Lakes'.  There is no Lake Stills or Nash, but a neighbouring Lake Hardy.

Why the rosy hue? The lake's algae secrete carotene, a red pigment. The best time to see the lakes through rose-coloured glasses is early or late in the day, and when it's cloudy. Over summer, the lakes evaporate and the concentrated salt crusts over the mud in glistening white.

The excellent walking tracks in the area make the Pink Lakes an ideal place to wander, particularly during spring wildflower season. You might find old stockpiles of salt and harvesting machinery on the edges of the lake, remnants from the commercial salt harvesting that began in the area back in 1916.

Need to rest your legs? The main campground at Lake Crosbie is pitch perfect for an overnight or longer stay.
