Overview

Rhyll

Take some time out and explore the quiet fishing hamlet of Rhyll. Enjoy a wander through the pristine natural landscapes surrounding the village, discover abundant wildlife, and dine out on local seafood, fresh out of the water.

Sense of place

Sip award-winning cool climate wines at Purple Hen Winery and tuck into succulent seafood at local eateries, including the popular Foreshore Bar and Restaurant. Come sunset, watch the sky change colour from the bay windows of a local B&B.

Natural offerings

Take a stroll through the mangroves of Rhyll Inlet and Conservation Hill, renowned for the number and diversity of local birdlife. See royal spoonbills, swans and straw-necked ibises, as well as the million-strong colony of migrating shearwaters (mutton birds) inbound from Alaska. Travel inland to the local trout farm, where the kids can catch their own dinner and learn about the ancient ways of the Koorie culture on the bush tucker trail.

Sail away

Hire a boat and sail the sheltered port, or charter a fishing expedition to visit remote French Island. Boat owners can access the excellent all-tide boat ramp, while land lovers can barbeque on the foreshore to the sounds of water lapping on the sand.
