Koalas
Meet Phillip Island's resident koalas in the wild or up close and personal at dedicated conservation locations.
Close encounters
Wander along the treetop boardwalks at Phillip Island’s Koala Conservation Centre and spot koalas high in the crooks of trees, a favoured position that makes them hard to see in the wild. Say cheese for excellent photo opportunities.
Between December and February look out for young joeys emerging from their mothers' pouches. The centre's interpretive exhibition provides fascinating background into the lives of koalas.
Join the ranger for informative talks and watch the koalas over a latte at Maru Koala and Animal Park in nearby Grantville.
Koalas in the wild
If you'd rather see koalas in the wild, catch the ferry to nearby French Island, home to the 1,500-strong disease-free colony of koalas. Walk and cycle around the island, and camp overnight for the chance to see koalas getting active.
See Phillip Island's little penguins emerge from the sea, peek at life inside a burrow, and spot other Australian animals at this wildlife wonderland
