Overview

Cover more of Mornington Peninsula by bicycle as you take advantage of an excellent network of on- and off-road paths, and catch the professionals making the most of the peaks and views.

The fastest routes to the peninsula's best attractions

Bring your own bike or hire one from the Mornington Peninsula National Park Visitor Centre and cycle to Fort Pearce, where bikes are left to begin a walk to the military installations at the tip of Point Nepean.

Traverse a large slice of the peninsula on the Frankston to Flinders shared trail. Pass mudflats and mangroves between Somerville and Balnarring on the Westernport Bay Trail, and celebrate the end of your journey with some boutique wines from the Balnarring micro-climate.

Perusing the pros

Make sure you're headed to Arthurs Seat in October when the peninsula pedals its cycling credentials by hosting the fourth stage of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour, Australia's oldest stage race. Watch as the peloton scales the short, sharp peak three gruelling times to end the stage, and stick around for post-race entertainment.

Seaside cycling

Take the Bay Trail along the foreshore from Dromana to Sorrento for unforgettable sea views. Go off road between Rye and Portsea on the Melbourne Road Trail, and enjoy a barbeque on the foreshore at your destination.

Head inland on the rail trail between Red Hill and Merricks. Fill your panniers with fresh produce from the roadside farms and wineries and acknowledge the passing horses and walkers.
