Amid the changing face of Lygon Street, with its new bars and deli cafes, you can count on this wine bar for an old school Melbourne experience. An institution since 1935, it was renovated in 1963 by Robin Boyd, whose golden touch can still be seen in the original bar and restaurant. Jimmy's descendants still run the place, maintaining the menu of pub fare and an abundance of wine, while developing new nooks and crannies. Check out the leafy courtyard, the Wolfs Lair, astroturfed Treetops and latest addition, The Thin Red Line bar, styled after a 1930s officers' mess.
