Melbourne Writers Festival (MWF) is Melbourne's annual, two-week celebration for everyone who reads. The Festival brings together writers from around the world to celebrate literature, explore ideas, and inspire readers through a vibrant program of storytelling, conversation and discussion, intellectual debate, educational programs, live performance, music and art events. The Festival includes events for people of all ages and more than a quarter of the program is free. In 2017 MWF will take audiences on a literary tour of Australia and all corners of the globe.
Take the City Circle tram or walk through city streets and laneways and along the Yarra River to see the city's street art and public artworks.
Choose any night of the week to indulge in Melbourne's local and international opera, ballet, comedy, live music, plays, performing arts and openings.
Make your way around Melbourne's 100-plus galleries, ranging from large public institutions to smaller commercial spaces and artist cooperatives.
Perch in a Brunswick Street bar and celebrate the way that sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same in this bohemian enclave.
Do a modern version of "the block", a century-old form of cruising Melbourne's arcades that takes in cutting-edge artwork, fashion, music and design.
Explore Aboriginal culture and heritage in Melbourne and surrounds. Take a heritage walk and visit cultural centres, galleries and museums.
