Tour operated by:

Buckle Up Bushrides

Buckle Up Bushrides will take you away on a fantastic horse riding weekend in the historical Howqua Valley located at the foot of the High Country. Here there are many bridle tracks to be explored.

This old gold mining area on the Howqua River is set in a beautiful, secluded valley, once bustling with gold miners but now popular with bushwalkers and four-wheel drivers.

While you are out riding, friendly backup vehicle staff will be setting up camp by the river and will have cold drinks waiting for you on arrival. All meals are hearty and home cooked and in fact Paul's mum Kay is renowned for her cooking. You have the comfort of a tent or you can swag out under the stars. You can choose to take a dip in the river after a day in the saddle or for those that like the finer things in life, there is a hot shower on offer.

Rides are suitable for both beginners through to experienced riders with horses to suit. Non-riders are welcome, relax on the river with a fishing rod or just bring a book.

Rides can be tailored for groups and for those wanting cabin accommodation.

Buckle Up Bushrides offer High Country horseriding at its best. Discover the beauty and history of Victoria's High Country with an unforgettable horseback adventure with hosts Paul and Shelly.

Paul Skvor is the great, great grandson of William Mitchell Lovick who settled the district in 1871. His grandfather, Jack Lovick began horseback riding tours in the 1960′s and today, the tradition still lives on.

Paul's partner Shelly, has been bush riding since a child and first came to the area after doing a horse safari with Jack's son Charlie back in 2000. Paul and Shelly rode for Charlie Lovick for many years before being encouraged to branch out on their own. The Man from Snowy River movies was filmed throughout the area with Paul's family playing a big part in the making of these movies.

Operating out of the Boorolite Valley, Buckle Up Bushrides have tours catering to riders of all levels. From beginner through to experienced horsemen, their horses have wonderful temperaments and are hardy bush horses.
