Launched in 1990, the annual Wangaratta Festival of Jazz & Blues is one of Australia's biggest regional music events and is acclaimed by fans, musicians and critics as Australia's premier jazz festival. The festival is proud of its Tourism Victoria's Hallmark Event status, having won the Victorian Tourism Award for regional events three times, and the Australian Tourism Award in 1999 for Regional Festivals of Events.The Festival is held over three days on the weekend prior to Melbourne Cup, boasting a world class program of local and international jazz and blues artists performing at venues ranging from the Performing Arts Centre to street and garden stages, pubs and wineries in nearby Milawa, Oxley and Taminick. The Riverside Precinct is the festival hub with food and wine vendors, markets, free music and entertainment along the banks of the beautiful Ovens River.In addition to a great line-up of jazz and blues performances, there is also the opportunity to venture out into a region renowned for its wines and gourmet food, natural landscapes and cycling adventures.
