The Alexandra & District Open Gardens Weekend is widely known for the superb country properties and town gardens on display. Despite the challenges of frosty winters, hot dry summers, bushfires and wildlife, generous gardeners are willing to spend months preparing their gardens for visitors to enjoy. Now in its 26th year, the Alexandra & District Open Gardens Weekend offers up to 10 gardens ranging from small manicured town spaces to expansive farm properties set amidst the magnificent backdrop of the Cathedral Mountain, rolling green hills and river valleys. Held each year in late October, the Open Gardens weekend celebrates the countryside at its most beautiful. Expect to see gorgeous spring blossoms and foliage, exotics and natives. Experience remarkable views, pristine air and a warm country greeting at each open venue.Less than two hours from Melbourne, visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and allow two days to enjoy the gardens with numerous attractions at many venues. Unique garden sculptures are featured as well as a mosaic workshop, plant sales, catering, a stunning quilt display, an antique fishing gear display and a line-up of impressive classic cars.
