The Beechworth Historic Re-enactment is holding a full scale living history display in Beechworth. The event enlists 13 historical re-enactment groups. These experienced groups will recreate Beechworth and Golden Hills Festival, 1857. This will comprise a Government Camp with uniformed members of the 40th of foot and 12th of foot displaying skill at arms drill and portraying the camp life of the soldiers involved. A police station and camp will be established with a gold commissioner in residence to issue gold licences to the younger population. This living display reminds the community of the region's important history and encourages research, and a greater interest and understanding.A Chinese camp will be established with a tea house and Joss temple. A miner’s camp will be established setting up authentic camps and mining sites. The public can explore, learn of Beechworth’s and Victoria’s golden past history.150 living history enthusiasts and re-enactors will be camping, living and moving through the town during the event.The event will open on Saturday morning with a parade of 50 Redcoats marching and 100 miners parading in Beechworth.
