Cruise up the river
Take a leisurely boat ride up the Glenelg River that winds 400 kilometres from the ocean at Nelson up to the Grampians Ranges in the north. Its placid waters make it ideal for canoeing and fishing and there are boat launching ramps at several points along the river or you can hire a canoe in town. The river cruise will take you through a spectacular gorge, where the river has cut a swathe through soft limestone. It is around 15 metres long and up to 50 metres deep in places and is one of the river's most stunning features.
Rugged coastal wilderness
Take in the slendour of Discovery Bay on the ocean side of Nelson. Marvel at the massive sand dunes on the 50-kilometre long beach – some of the largest in Victoria. Surf the mighty waves of the wild west or wander a section of the Great South West walk to see native flora and fauna.
