Overview

Horsham

Stay a while in the lively town of Horsham and experience its striking surrounds, immortalised by painters Arthur Boyd and Sidney Nolan. Known as the Capital of the Wimmera, Horsham is located on the banks of the Wimmera River and makes an excellent base from which to access its dynamic arts scene and some legendary natural attractions.

Nature nearby

In town, follow the river's path on a leisurely Wimmera River Walk, across bridges and parks, through wetlands and under ancient river red gums, or take a stroll in the William Guilfoyle–designed botanic gardens.

Set off on a bushwalking excursion at Grampians National Park or Wartook Valley region, both a mere 30 minutes southeast of Horsham. At the tip of Grampians National Park lies Gulgurn Manja. Take the self-guided walk to the rock shelter to see these incredible Aboriginal rock paintings.

Head north towards the scenic town of Natimuk and explore the nature trails at Little Desert National Park.

World-class climbing

Test your climbing and abseiling skills at Mount Arapiles in Tooan State Park, one of the top rock climbing spots in Australia. Stay to capture photos of the stunning sunsets across the vast plains of the Wimmera and Northern Grampians.

Creative spirits

Visit Horsham Regional Art Gallery to see how the Wimmera region has inspired some of Australia's most talented artists, including painters Sidney Nolan and Nicholas Chevalier. Home to an impressive collection of photography, the gallery also presents an exciting schedule of contemporary art exhibitions.

Combine a love of art and outdoors on the Public Art and Heritage Trail. See living history in Horsham's heritage-listed buildings and discover a thriving arts scene in the murals and sculptures dotted along the trail.
