Avoca
Set yourself up trackside and celebrate a horse racing win with a glass or two of impressive cool-climate wines in Avoca, nestled in the base of the Pyrenees Ranges.
Enjoy Sunday mornings with a coffee at the Avoca Riverside Market, and wander the town's wide main street, lined with the historic facades of gold rush days. Prop up the bar and enjoy a fine feed at the grand old Avoca Hotel. Take in the natural beauty of the Pyrenees Ranges with a relaxing bush walk or picnic.
Cool climate wines
Choose from 30 wineries in the Pyrenees wine region, known for cool climate varietals. Noted cellar doors include Blue Pyrenees, Taltarni Vineyard, Redbank Winery, Mount Avoca Wines, Dalwhinnie Vineyard and Warrenmang Vineyard and Resort.
Stay overnight and dine at one of the many wineries with accommodation and restaurant facilities. Keep an eye out for winery events like Seduction by Tastebuds – a series of regular degustation dinners crafted by one of Australia's top chefs and perfectly complemented by Pyrenees wines.
Traditional country racing
Get along to at least one of the Avoca Shire Turf Club's three fantastic annual country race meets. See the field and have a tipple at the Mount Avoca Anzac Day Races or the PJA & Blue Pyrenees Avoca Cup in October.
