Overview

Central Gippland has diverse and unforgettable walks from the mountains of the High Country to the green country plains and the wild splendour of Ninety Mile Beach.

Start up high to walk through giant mountain ash and cool temperate rainforest in Tarra Bulga National Park, discover over 40 species of native orchid at Morwell National Park or see where the legends of the mountain cattlemen were born on the Dargo High Plains and the Alpine National Park. Head towards the sea to Sale for the western entrance to the Gippland Lakes, Australia's largest inland waterway, and it's not far to Ninety Mile Beach with its unspoilt and endless white sand.

Along the way there's great dining on fresh local produce in small wineries in magnificent natural settings, and many artists exhibit in local studios, the Latrobe Regional Gallery in Morwell and the Gippsland Art Gallery in Sale.

Plan before you go: Be sure to check weather and terrain conditions and pack plenty of water before you embark on an outdoor adventure. Stay up-to-date with the latest warnings and advice via the Parks Victoria and Vic Emergency websites.
