Things to do

Boasting a diverse range of holiday destinations, historic sights and natural attractions, Gippsland is the place to create a lifetime of memories with your family.

Sand, surf and sun

Gippsland's famous coastline is a beacon for local and visiting families alike, particularly in the summertime. The surf and boogie boards come out on the gentle surfs of Inverloch and Lakes Entrance beach, and kids of all ages can splash, swim and try out water sports in the Gippsland Lakes.

Bring your gear and make use of the abundant fishing opportunities on offer all across the region. Cast a line in the local lakes, beaches and mountain streams and catch your own dinner.

Get the family together for a ride down one of Gippsland’s popular rail trails and cycle from one town to another, taking in the sights, sounds and local flavours as you go.

Mother nature

Venture into Gippsland's national parks and rainforests on foot, by bicycle or in a four-wheel drive. Spot seals and dolphins at play and take long beach walks that the whole family can enjoy.

Look out for native wildlife like koalas, wallabies, kangaroos and birds on the drive to Wilsons Prom and make a weekend of it by setting up camp at Tidal River, one of Victoria’s most popular campgrounds.

Head off to the Buchan Caves for more exploring. See the honeycomb-like stalactites and stalagmites formed by underground rivers, millions of years ago. Make your own way through the caves or join one of the daily tours to learn more about their history.

Looking into the past

Explore the winding underground paths of the State Coal Mine in Wonthaggi. Enjoy interactive activities suitable for kids young and old - and don't forget to explore the parkland above ground. Alternatively, visit the Coal Creek Community Park and Museum and ride the bush tramway through natural surrounds before settling in for a picnic in the park.

Passing through Maffra? Stop by the Gippsland Vehicle Collection and check out the fascinating array of vintage cars, motorbikes, carriages and auto memorabilia.
