Gippsland fishing opportunities are plentiful and extend to estuary, river, beach and offshore areas for experienced anglers and beginners alike.

South Gippsland

Venus Bay
Wet a line for flathead, salmon, tailor, whiting and trevally at Andersons Inlet and Venus Bay - great for families and surf anglers.

Shallow Inlet and Waratah Bay
Catch flathead, salmon and whiting at Waratah Bay and Shallow Inlet - a boat is recommended for more effective fishing. Snapper can be caught in the area, usually near the inlet entrance.

Wilsons Promontory
Go fishing for whiting, flathead and salmon within the estuaries and from beaches around the promontory. Angling restrictions are in place for some or all forms of fishing.

Corinella and Western Port
Launch your boat from Corinella for fishing in the Western Port region. The most common fish caught in the bay are flathead, whiting, snapper, silver bay trout, trevally, gummy sharks and mullet.

Kilcunda
Try surf fishing at Kilcunda, Harmers' Haven and Wreck Beach - great for salmon, trout and yellow-eyed mullet. Just south of Kilcunda is Powlett River, known for its high quality bream.

Inverloch
Visit Flat Rocks near Inverloch - a favourite fishing spot for locals with plenty of whiting. Nearby Undertow Bay is great for mullet and salmon.

Central Gippsland

Ninety Mile Beach
Go fishing for flathead, salmon and mullet, tailor, gummy shark and snapper, with offshore reefs also providing good fishing.

Port Albert
Throw a line in off the coast of Port Albert, known for its snapper, flathead and salmon fishing.

Lake Hyland near Morwell
Head to Lake Hyland to catch rainbow trout (regularly stocked by Fisheries Victoria) redfin, carp and eels.

East Gippsland

Gippsland Lakes
Join the recreational anglers and go fishing for black bream. Particularly well regarded areas include Hollands Landing, Paynesville and Lake King.

Croajingolong National Park
Go fishing at Sydenham Inlet (Bemm River), Tamboon Inlet, Wingan Inlet and Mallacoota Inlet - all highly regarded destinations along this stretch of coast.

Mallacoota
Discover great fishing off the coast of Mallacoota, well known for producing monster flathead. The Genoa and Wallagaraugh rivers above Mallacoota Inlet also provide excellent fishing for bream.
