The Bellarine Community Farmers' Market main aims is to bring together local farmers, growers,
producers, community groups and passionate 'foodie' individuals to provide fresh food, produce and plants direct to the public in one convenient location.
This activity benefits all members of the local community due to the associated health and environmental benefits of consuming locally grown produce, reducing food kilometres and profits being kept directly within the community.
With this in mind, the Market also focuses on developing relationships amongst locals, Ocean Grove Park Inc., community groups, as well as the all-important market stallholders. Several key projects have come to fruition since the first market in January 2012, including the Shared Community Stall. Producers who do not have enough produce to sustain their own stall can have the opportunity to bunk in together on one volunteer-run stall. Groups have so far included hobby farmers, backyard growers, school groups and food-based businesses.
Other initiatives include the Community 'Shout-Out' Stall - a free stall for any local, not-for-profit Bellarine Community group to come along and set up a stall / booth to promote and advertise themselves.
The Market also supports local buskers providing a relaxed and easy way to allow locals to showcase their talents, earn a few dollars and to provide a background ambience while the patrons shop.
The Kids Corner Marquee is run by Bellarine Kids and offers a safe and engaging area for the littlies, with changing activities, books and face painting available each market.
With so much on offer, Bellarine Community Farmers' Market is a great family day out with something for everyone.
