Open Gardens Victoria is presenting three excellent gardens in Kyneton on the weekend of April 7 & 8. They are close to each other and would make a wonderful days outing.Scotsman’s Hill is on the site of an old bluestone quarry. The banks of the steep site are managed with stone walls - the rocks being sourced from the garden excavation. As the path winds down the slope, garden beds create a ‘river’ or swathes of plants - all selected to suit the location and aspect. Brocklebank offers a combination of established and younger trees along with large blocks of grasses. The maples, established trees and grasses present a wonderful tapestry of textures and colours, especially in autumn. There are a number of well-maintained hedges, including a curved Teucrium hedge near the vegetable garden. The Wedgewoods has vast lawns, views through walls and hedges and a superb wisteria tunnel opposite a meadow garden and walnut orchard. Crab apple trees line the drive and the mature Chinese Elm and eucalypts provide shade, colour and texture. Sculptures and fountains are scattered throughout the mature garden and orchard.
