If you are interested in local history, visit one of a number of local museums that tell the stories of the lives of the early pioneers.
Kyneton Museum
The Kyneton Museum collection includes the building in which the museum is housed. Recognised by the National Trust, the beautiful bluestone building was built in 1855 as a bank of New South Wales branch, to serve the needs of a rapidly-expanding population on its way to the central Victorian goldfields. The exhibits are housed in the former bank manager's residence, the stables, servants' kitchen, laundry and cellar, and include a wide range of household items, artworks, photographs, linen, lace, costumes, horse-drawn vehicles, farm machinery.

George Evans Museum
Sunbury's George Evans Museum houses a large collection of photographs dating from the time of white settlement in the area, and various artefacts revealing the history of the area, including the festivals for which Sunbury has become famous. Australia's version of Woodstock, the Sunbury Pop Festival, was held at Diggers Rest, near Sunbury, for four years from 1972-1975. The museum also hosts travelling exhibitions.

Daylesford Historical Museum
On display at the Daylesford Historical Museum is a large collection of photographs of the early district and its inhabitants, a display of Djadja Wurrung artefacts, extensive local genealogical material, an excellent display of local memorabilia and artefacts.

Dromkeen
Dromkeen, a 1800s National Trust homestead is a museum of Australian children's literature, picture book art and gallery spaces. Surrounded by magnificent gardens, sculptures and an outdoor picture board heritage trail.
