Family trips to the snow

A day trip to play in the snow
All Victorian snow resorts have areas where you can throw snowballs, build snowmen or toboggan. Snow play areas at many resorts are conveniently located near car parks, so you can pack up the car and drive to within a few metres of the snow. Enjoy a day in the snow at Mt Baw Baw, Lake Mountain, Mt Stirling and Mt Buller and be back in time for dinner. For safety reasons, use only moulded plastic toboggans, stay on tobogganing slopes, and remember that it is an offence to ride toboggans headfirst.

Family snow holidays
Snow sports can be enjoyed by the whole family in a safe and healthy setting. It’s easier than ever for families to take a skiing/boarding holiday with packages to pick from and family-friendly resorts to visit.

Snow sports schools have programs for all ages and all ability levels. At larger resorts, there are crèche facilities for young families as well as specialist day and half-day ski school programs for kids.

The accommodation on offer at the larger resorts is family-friendly, with good choices in self-catering lodges and apartments and fully catered hotels and lodges.

As well as skiing, boarding, and tobogganing, resorts are also continually developing new activities like snow tubing – a fun sport that involves sitting inside a large rubber inner tube and bouncing down a dedicated slope. Control of the craft is limited, but that just adds to the fun. Snow shoeing is another non-ski/board activity and a great way to discover the alpine environment and explore snow gum forests and mountain peaks.
