Cross-country skiing
Cross-country skiing is suitable for people of all ages and abilities and provides a great physical work out. Equipment is available for hire from most of the on-mountain rental outlets.
Victoria's alpine resorts offer cross-country skiers easy slopes and stunning views. Slice through fresh snow amongst the eucalypt forests of Mount Baw Baw, Mount Stirling and Lake Mountain, renowned as Australia’s premier cross-country ski resort. Lake Mountain is the third most-visited cross-country alpine resort in the world, offering a network of well-marked beginner and advanced trails spanning 39 kilometres.
The highlight of the Victorian cross-country skiing calendar is The Kangaroo Hoppet, Australia's premier long distance cross-country ski race. It’s held at Falls Creek on the last Saturday in August each year (28 August 2004).
