Recognised as Australia's largest female participation sport, there are over one million netball players across the country, from grassroots to national levels. The sport plays a large role, not just in the health and well being of Victorians, but in bolstering social cohesion.

Suncorp Super Netball

The Suncorp Super Netball league is the world’s premier professional netball league, providing the opportunity for more than 80 of the world’s best netballers to hone their skills on the big stage annually.
The league is made up of eight clubs: Adelaide Thunderbirds, Melbourne Vixens, New South Wales Swifts, Queensland Firebirds, West Coast Fever, Sunshine Coast Lightning, GIANTS Netball, and the Melbourne Mavericks.
Melbourne is home to two clubs, the Melbourne Vixens and the Melbourne Mavericks, who play home games at John Cain Arena. This multi-purpose venue is located in the heart of the Melbourne Park sports precinct, where multiple world-class events, including the Australian Open, are hosted in a range of top-tier venues.

Origin Australian Diamonds

At national and international levels, Melbourne is also home to the Origin Australian Diamonds. Ranked number one in the world as of 2024, the national netball team represents Australia at events including the Netball World Cup and Netball Nations Cup, as well as the annual Constellation Cup against New Zealand. In 2023, the Diamonds took home the coveted Netball World Cup trophy following a brilliant win over the England Roses at the World Cup in South Africa, 61 to 45.

The Origin Australian Diamonds are one of the most dominant and decorated teams in our nation’s history, and Visit Victoria is a proud Platinum Partner of the team.

Constellation Cup 2023

Constellation Cup

The Constellation Cup has taken place since 2010 and is an international netball competition between Australia and New Zealand, with matches taking place on both sides of the Tasman. The Origin Australian Diamonds team has won 11 of the 14 Cups, including in 2023.
